Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support. We understand that certain topics, such as concerns about businesses possibly using private accounts, can be frustrating and important to you. Please refrain from asking the same question repeatedly in our weekly live chats. We assure you that we carefully review all posts in the forum and ensure that your concerns are communicated to the relevant teams for appropriate action.
To maintain a constructive and community environment, posts that repeatedly breach this guideline may be removed. Continued violations could result in further action against your community account. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in helping us keep our community focused and respectful.
To ask your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, type your question, and click Reply between 2pm and 3pm. The community team will answer each incoming question in chronological order and will quote the original question in each answer.
Please note that any reply without a question to the community team or discussion replies may be removed from the chat. We want to keep on track to get through as many questions as possible. We welcome all discussion to be moved to the discussion boards.

·1 year agoPlease explain what extra the client will be getting for the buyer protection?
They already have buyer protection - so is this some sort of extrar insurance you are selling?
If so is Ebay regulated by the FCA?
kat@ebay
Hi @phillsvinyl ,
The Buyer Protection provides new benefits to give buyers more peace of mind when shopping. 24/7 customer support where buyers can connect with a real person by phone at any time of day, or start a chat to get quick answers. Sellers will also now be paid after delivery so when buying from private sellers, funds will only be sent once their item has been delivered. This can help with buyer confidence giving them time to raise a concern if they have one.
eBay is regulated by the FCA and you can see more of those details here.
Thank you,
Kat

Following up from @johnwash1‘s question, there is some real misinformation being thrown about on the boards and CS.
I’ve just read that one seller was told by CS that the new payment process only apply to new or occasional sellers. Well that’s obviously not true.
The mentors fought a firestorm this weekend. Thought they were all amazing.
But to my question, shouldn’t there be a more interactive approach from eBay CS on these boards? For reassurance and damage limitation, some of your colleagues with some real understanding of how this is going to work before February.
Jo
marco@ebay
Hi @bojangled, thanks for your question.
Changes will apply to all private sellers, not just occasional private sellers. There probably was some confusion because at the moment, funds for occasional sellers are held for a certain period of time.
Hope this helps,
Marco

I must have been asked 50 times, at what point is it going to stop?
marco@ebay
Hi , thanks for your question.
This suggestion may pop up every now and then, while I understand this is not ideal for you, there is not option to fully stop it as it might pick up things like when you clear your caches and cookies, new networks such as different Wi-Fi and things like this. However, happy to share this for you as feedback, as it is something to take into consideration.
Thank you,

·1 year agoHi
I use tracked delivery for 95% of my sold items, and i ONLY use royal mail and parcelforce for large items.
I only use collections, not drop offs, especially for parcelforce, as parcelforce drop off depot is 44 mile round trip which takes 2.5 hours.
I cannot book a collection from parcelforce via the ebay postage service on the app or web browser, therefore is use parcelforce website to book collections, it links to my ebay account to collect sales data.
will this be sorted out before simple delivery is imposed, as, otherwise i will no longer be able to sell anything larger than royal mails medium parcel
marco@ebay
Hi @vjbuystuff, thanks for your question.
Simple Delivery is not mandatory as of yet, but if it was, an option for collection may be available. However, we have no further information on this since this is not mandatory at the moment and you still can pick the courier and service of your preference.
Thank you,
Marco

·1 year agois there a specific team i can report the problem re not being able to parcelforce collection to?
I would also report the same isse with royal mail collections which are 1 day slower when booked via the ebay app
marco@ebay
Hi @vjbuystuff, thanks for your reply.
If you provide a couple of examples on a thread outside the chat, which is now closed, I can flag that for you no problem.
Thank you,
Marco

·1 year agoHow will people with accessibility issues sell, if buyers will be allowed to choose services where Simple (?) Delivery doesn't provide collection?
For years I've been booking direct with RM and my postie collects the next day from my enclosed porch, where I've left the parcel overnight. What will happen if my buyer selects Evri?
marco@ebay
Hi @johnwash1, thanks for your reply.
Simple Delivery is not really mandatory at the moment, so they can still pick the courier and service of their preference, so the items can be collected from them. Even if it was, a collection option would most likely be available to help in those scenarios.
Thank you,
Marco

·1 year agoThanks Marco. I wish I shared your optimism that this will be sorted out before SD is mandatory. Otherwise sellers in rural locations and ones with accessibility issues will cease selling. End of Q1 is not far away.
What have you heard when discussing the development of mandatory SD with the "teams"? What are these teams, are they marketing people, or developers, or what?

·1 year agoBefore christmas i requested a 1:1 with a professional to help with advertising etc, not to my surprise, i didn't get a callback from this department.
I tried various promotion ads, absolutely no improvement in sales or traffic regardless of how much money i threw at it.....no traffic, no sales, no commission for ebay.
How do ebay think adding a buyers fee is going to entice more people to the platform?
To fool people saying it is a 'Buyer protection' fee when they already have that in place with ebay money back gaurantee....so a fee for something already in place by ebay!
Surely you lot have seen the numerous posts on the forum regarding this......
What disatrous decision will be next by the decision makers at ebay HQ?
Below is a few simple suggestions to pass back to the decision makers:-
1. Private sellers should not be entitled to have a shop
2. Private sellers to be limited on number of items allowed to list / sell per year
3. Free basic shop for Business sellers
4. Business sellers to have free listings
5. Same final fee % for private and business sellers, one standard flate rate fee. No need for different rates depending on catergory.
6. Ebay to get rid of all these 'bolt on fee' they introduced...
7. Ebay to get rid of promoted listings / ads and advertise like they used too. Better advertising = more sales = more commission for ebay
8. Any private seller selling over the £1k allowance to have their details sent to HMRC for HMRC to deal with.
kat@ebay
Hi @auctiongabble ,
We are monitoring the various threads on the topic of the buyers fee and are sharing the sentiment back within eBay.
With regards to your 8 points I will share these as feedback.

Please can you provide me the details on how i make a complaint about eBay and how they handled a recent issue i had?
Thanks
marco@ebay
Hi @ak_craft_crazy, thanks for your question.
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience, but if you wish to lodge a complaint, you can call our customer service team, and they will lodge your complaint no problem.
Thank you,
Marco
ak_craft_crazy
·1 year agoHi,
Tried that but they said they do not handle complaints.
Thanks
marco@ebay
Thanks for your reply, @ak_craft_crazy.
I was checking for you there, and you haven't contacted in the last week. How recent was the issue in question? I'm not sure what happened there, but they should be able to lodge a complaint from their end.
Thank you,
Marco
ak_craft_crazy
·1 year agoThe issue happened over Christmas in relation to a return where the buyer falsely said the item was not as described. I contact customer services via the phone and had issues with them as they said my partner, who is the primary contact on the account, was not able to speak to them as he didn't have authority. This is one issue!
Eventually we spoke to them and they said they would take over the return and to leave it with them. We did and they contacted us back a few days later saying that they have found the case in our favour and accepted the buyer misused the returns, they told us to do the usual report them ETC which we already did. Then said they will refund the buyer from Ebay and not us and that we did not need to do anything and the case would not affect us.
Now this is also mentioned in the message sent when the return was closed. However the buyer has received a refund, we are still out of pocket for the return and the buyer has managed to leave negative feedback. When we have requested this be removed via the "request to remove feedback" page it was declined for some reason.
So we would like to make a complaint one about customer service refusing to speak to my partner even though he is on the account and even down as the main contact and also how they actually spoke to him.
Second the way in which the return was dealt with by eBay saying it would not affect us but it clearly has so we have been lied to.
marco@ebay
Hi @ak_craft_crazy, thanks for sharing that with me.
Sorry to hear about your experience, while I'd like to take further action on this to help you out, we could only share your experience from our end, just so they are aware of it. However, the best thing to do is contacting them directly again, and make sure to tell them that you want to lodge a complaint on the issues in question, and they have to lodge that complaint for you. From there, they will take the actions the consider necessary in your case.
Thank you,
Marco

·1 year agoHas the community team considered getting more senior people to attend these Wednesday sessions sometimes, to short circuit the inevitable "We don't have an answer to that, we'll contact the team, but they may not do anything" followed by tumbleweed?
Or has the community team indeed tried that but found senior management don't fancy sticking their hands in a hornet's nest?
People are in shock that mandatory Simple Delivery was announced by the CEO to investors months ago, yet nothing has been told to us, so conjecture is widespread. Ebay are missing a chance to defuse this.
kat@ebay
Hi @johnwash1 ,
These weekly chats are run by the community team and there is no plans to have other senior people attend them. We share the feedback and sentiment from these chats along with the discussion boards with the relevant people within eBay.
If there is information that needs to be clarified we follow this up. Simple delivery has been introduced and currently there is an opt out option. We do not have any further details right now on it being mandatory. Once there is further updates on that aspect we will share it on the community.
Thank you,
Kat

I assume you're ebay staff, so why are you not being informed?

Hi @johnwash1 ,
Right now we don't have any further details on the mandated simple delivery. Once we do, we will of course share it.

·1 year agowe have been told that sellers will be made to use ebay postage when sending items ,so will have to print out our lpostage abels or get a QR code . Is this true ?as we don't own a printer or a smart phone so would make it impossible to post anything .
marco@ebay
Hi @plentyoflifestillinit64, thanks for your question.
You will have the option to print it yourself, but you can just go to the collection point with your QR code and they will print it for you no problem.

No printer and no smart phone - where is a 'collection point' ?-

Thanks for your reply, @a45heaven.
Collection points locations may vary depending on your location and the courier's location. However, it normally is the nearest one to your location.

·1 year agoI'm in the UK. My account was taken over by a hacker Feb last year. After lots of calls to Customer service Agents, I got it back, but with the negative balance that the Hacker fruadulantly caused.
With many further calls to Ebay Agents, who promised it will be dealt with and returned to a zero balance. Just before Christmas, I had a no-reply email from Ebay, demanding I pay the balance or it will passed to a Debt collection agency. So now I am being harassed, and the stress is affecting my health.
I need to put all this in writing via an email to Ebay Appeals Dept, but customer service say can't be emailed.
Can anyone please help me find an ebay email address to a department that can help.
Thank you

·1 year agoAny chance of getting order details on eBay messages from customers back? It's a basic requirement that was removed for no reason.
I know it's been fed back to 'the team' but this was months ago and we're still stuck with this abomination that is totally useless.
It would be nice if posting in this weekly chat actually got some results, because honestly, I've never really had anything other than 'thanks for the feedback, we'll send it to the team'.
Time to show some teeth community team and start fighting for these things that sellers ask you every week. Chase 'the team' up, give us some updates, pester them on our behalf.
Otherwise you may as well just cancel the chats because they're mostly useless.
marco@ebay
Hi @darth_baggins, thanks for your input.
We do share feedback, but sharing feedback doesn't necessarily means that all feedback that is provided here will be adopted or implemented. However, it is taken into consideration. You're more than welcome to keep sharing your feedback with us if you wish, but again, please note that doesn't necessarily mean that all suggestions will be implemented.

·1 year agoInternational Postage has been broken for months, unable to purchase any Royal Mail labels for parcels.
Now from the Buy Labels in Bulk page, it asks you to enter the dimensions, but the price stays at that for standard letter, making it possible to buy the wrong postage when you think you've entered the right information.
It's still impossible to buy Royal Mail labels for small and medium packages. Is there any progress being made on this issue?

·1 year agoI'm afraid I have really rather lost faith in the tech team's honesty regarding these matters.
Regarding the issue of international shipping labels being formatted for A4 instead of 6x4, when 6x4 is selected, they got me performing all these tests and going to a cybercafe etc, eventually acknowledged the issue, told me for over a year that they're working on it at the highest priority, then two years after being told of the issue, they tell you that there's no issue and it's working as designed.
I'd really like to raise an official complaint about them lying to me, as I'm at a loss trying to understand why they've done this.
kat@ebay
Hi @bobsbrickstuff ,
I completely understand where your coming from regarding the tech issues you have reported. I do apologise for the inconvenience it caused you while tech were trying to resolve the one from last year. With regards to the one with the sizes of labels this is down to a design issue and there is no current plan on that changing.
The most recent one is opened as a bug issue with the shipping team directly so we can continue to follow that up from our side as well. I won't have a timescale but will keep updated with it.
Thank you,
Kat

·1 year agoWhy does eBay make people provide so much information to the seller (apart from it being a very old form which looks like it needs updating) when replying to classified ads on eBay, which I think is a security risk, (email full name phone number postcode and user id) especially as they are often high value items - cars and camper vans, fake sellers can use this info to impersonate peoples bank. No other classified ad sites send that much info about the buyer.
kat@ebay
Hi @10.20 ,
They would ask for the details required to facilitate a sale between the buyer and seller. It allows the seller to be able to communicate with the buyer usually to arrange collection for those type of items. It is not within eBay's control if a seller has intentions to misuse the information provided.
Thank you,
Kat
10.20
·1 year agoHi Cat, but we can communicate via eBay's messaging system, it's unnecessary to provide all the information the form requires in the first instance, a phone number is the most that is needed, eBay needs to act responsibly and protect peoples information due to the large number of fake classified ads posted in the vehicles section and financial frauds going on online generally. The form fills that info in and makes you include it when replying to a classified ad. It is completely unnecessary.
kat@ebay
Hi @10.20 ,
I will share your point as feedback for the forms on classified ads. If you do come across an ad which you feel is fake then you can report it through the site so that it can be reviewed and the relevant action.
Thank you,
Kat

·1 year agoGood afternoon Team,
We are experiencing some really bad weather again here in the UK.
When will eBay do anything about adjusting the estimated delivery times to compensate for that or otherwise make an announcement of some sort?
I have been checking some of our listings and they show as delivery on Friday - Saturday for Royal Mail 48, even though it is after our cutoff for same day shipping. That is therefore showing a 1-2 day delivery estimate.
Considering we are not getting most of our deliveries from courier or Royal Mail and Royal Mail didn't make our collection at all yesterday, due to the weather, then when are eBay going to pay attention to the weather and DO something?
Or are eBay just going to close the gate after the horse has bolted and just blame the sellers for "not shipping on time" as they usually do?
Thanks
Russ
marco@ebay
Hi @ducatimondo, thanks for your question.
At the moment we have no confirmation on this, but we normally evaluate these situations, and the if needed we will announce a protection plan for the impacted areas like we have done before. Just keep an eye out on your notifications or here in the community as we will communicate to users that way as usual.
Thank you,

·1 year agoGood afternoon Marco,
Thank you for your reply.
Your reply, disappointingly suggests that eBay are going to do the second of what I said in my question.
The estimated delivery times could easily be lengthened, to add a few more days on.
That would reassure sellers that eBay do care about them, even slightly.
Doing nothing however makes us all think that you do not care about either buyers or sellers.
Both need to feel like they have a good experience.
Sellers will not have a good experience when we are bombarded with "where's my stuff" messages in the coming days.
Buyers will not have a good experience when they do not get items when they expect them.
As it is, buyers always blame the seller when something does not arrive as quickly as expected and usually starts with "you said it would be here by ** date and it hasn't arrived".
eBay need more transparency that it is eBay that are in control and 100% responsible for the estimated delivery times.
I for one am sick of the flack, when eBay can't successfully add 2 numbers together to get a fair estimate.
This is worsened when all delivery services throughout the whole country are unpredictable and yet, eBay do nothing to help.
Please help with more than "we may or may not do something at some point, perhaps, maybe"
Thank you
Russ
