Wants me (buyer) to cancel an order so they don't take the hit?
Summary: golden-horse1 is dealing with a situation where a seller is asking them to cancel an eBay order due to increased costs on the seller's end. The seller appears to be using drop shipping through an Amazon Prime account and marked the order as 'dispatched' without providing tracking information. papso22 suggests waiting until after the expected delivery date to open a case for the item not received. golden-horse1 is concerned that even if a refund is issued, the seller might not receive any negative repercussions, allowing them to continue potentially problematic practices.
I'm not sure about the best way to handle this.
I've brought an item via Buy It Now and 2 days later have been sent a message by the seller asking me to cancel the order. It looks like he's a drop shipper who uses Amazon Prime account to fulfill eBay orders, and the problem is the Amazon price has gone up so now he wants me to cancel the order.
I've looked at eBay's policy and it seems they don't like it when sellers who suddenly realise that they can't fulfill orders and cancel purchases, and I think he's trying to get around this by getting me to do the cancellation. Also earlier today he marked the order as 'dispatched' but of course without a tracking number, presumably as a way of avoiding eBay's rules about not sending items.
This is the most recent of a series of problems I've had with eBay sellers, and frankly I'm starting to get a bit sick of it. So I'm wondering what would be the best course of action here?

OP1 month agoThanks for the reply. Am I right in thinking that the seller won't get any negative mark or defect registered against their account if they then issue a refund, and can just carry on potentially causing problems for people?

·1 month agoIt will register on their account but only cause a defect if they fail to refund and ebay does it. Carefully worded feedback should be a way of warning other buyers.
