Hello everyone,I posted on US community not knowing, I am on US servers so reposting here on UK community.I am in a slightly unusual situation and would appreciate some advice from people who understand how eBay return cases work.I recently bought a laptop for around £2,400. As it was an expensive item, and the listing offered collection, I decided to collect it in person rather than risk anything going wrong during postage. I drove around 85 miles each way, roughly three hours in total, to collect it.At collection, I did a quick boot test, checked that the serial number matched, and then took the laptop home. However, once I started using it properly, I noticed issues. The laptop was throttling a lot and, at times, becoming very laggy. I work in IT, so I tried the usual checks, including reinstalling Windows and removing bloatware, but the same issues continued.I therefore raised a return request. The seller accepted the return at the last minute. Because of the item’s value, I offered to return it in person so we could both make sure it was handed back safely. The seller did not really respond to that and instead provided a postage label, around three days after accepting the return.I posted the laptop the next morning, and it was delivered the following morning. I kept the seller updated when it was shipped and when it was delivered, but I did not receive any communication back.The next afternoon, a day after delivery, I received an email and app notification from eBay saying the case was on hold because the seller had asked eBay to step in. I have no idea what reason the seller has given. I messaged the seller again, but still had no response.I called eBay customer service, but they could not really explain what had happened or what reason the seller had selected. I told them I am happy to provide any information they need.As a precaution, I kept records of everything, including packaging photos, label photos, serial number, MAC address, delivery tracking, and messages. I have sold items myself in the past, so I understand returns are not ideal for sellers, especially with expensive items. However, as a buyer, I also feel I have the right to return something if it is not working as expected.What I find confusing is that eBay does not seem to show me the reason why the seller asked them to step in, which makes it difficult to respond properly. I am also disappointed that the seller did not communicate with me before escalating the case.Has anyone else had this happen before? What usually happens when a seller asks eBay to step in after the returned item has already been delivered?Any advice would be appreciated.
