Safety issue. buyers at risk. Seller refuses to put description right.
Summary: orbsorbed experienced issues with a seller on eBay who refused to update a misleading product description, which risks the safety of buyers, especially those with allergies. Despite attempting to resolve the issue politely, the seller only offered a non-standard return process and did not update the listing. tressygirl advised them about eBay's return policies and stressed the importance of opening a formal case within 30 days. orbsorbed expressed frustration with the seller and considered social media exposure as suggested by jonatjonatjonat. Another participant suggested contacting trading standards to address the issue.
hello
I bought an item that the (well known) seller knows is not listed with saftey in mind.. For 1 month I have been politely telling them to put right.
They first told me to send it back with my own funds. I said this is not fair or right. They then sent me a link to book my return ( a special royal mail link to a label) not to advise me to use the standard ebay return link button!
But I need the listing put right first to protect ebay buyers.
So after over 1 month of polite complaint. I thought to try a return through ebay to put it on record that way.
Ebay now says that I can try to return, but it has gone beyond the 1 month ebay buyer protection.
The seller still has not updated their description.
What can I do?

·5 days agoTrading standards may be interested if this is a UK registered business seller, and you're still in time to leave a well worded feedback to warn other potential buyers.

·6 days agoYou can do nothing now with eBay, as the seller has fobbed you off with excuses to take you over the claim period of 30 days.
When you see that the seller is obviously not wishing to help , message no more just turn and proceed as per eBay's 30 day MBG policy, this is written on every listing, bar those for v ehicles.
Within 30 days of the item's last estimated date for delivery you open a case for item not as described, if a refund or return label paid by the seller not you, does not appear in 4 days, you escalate the case, eBay step in and force the refund.
If enough of these cases are opened, it raises red flags to eBay they can then remove the item or the seller from their site.
eBay do not listen to messages, as this could be coming from a competitor or disgruntled buyer, they act on cases.

OP6 days agoThank you. I very rarely, once every 10 years, may leave a negative feedback. But this is astonishing. A very popular company selling food with harmful ingredients to those with allergies, and they flat out refuse to include in the ebay listing > what is actually on the label. They instead suggest only trace amounts. when really it is allot more. Then if the buyer does not eat the food and then to hospital, they expect the buyer to pay return postage, as though it is their fault ??? I am 25 years on ebay and I have never seen anything like this from a big UK company!! They do not act like this on their .com site. they are clear on their .com. : /

·6 days agohave you tried tagging them on social media? A little bit of exposure there might get them to change their mind if a month of politeness hasn’t.

OP5 days ago"If enough of these cases are opened, it raises red flags to eBay they can then remove the item or the seller from their site". I presume this is why they suggested for me to send it back my own way, they gave me an address in messages, but did not suggest I go through the normal ebay return console!! ( i have never had this before except with a retun to China), But this is a well known orgainic UK health food company. thanks for your comment.
