Purchased refunded within half an hour - No reason given
Summary: icecarmedia shared their experience of purchasing an item on a platform, receiving a tracking number quickly, but then getting a refund notification without explanation. jonatjonatjonat guessed that the seller might have realized they didn't have the item in stock. icecarmedia confirmed this, noticing the item was eventually marked as out of stock and expressed frustration over the lack of communication. tressygirl explained that sellers get a strike if they cancel due to being out of stock, which might explain the unexplained refund. jonatjonatjonat pointed out that the seller bypassed consequences by processing a label before refunding. icecarmedia noted that the seller still lists the item as having more than 10 available, raising questions about whether to try purchasing again.
As title
Bought and paid for item
Tracking number showed up on order details within 15 minutes
Then refund message arrived
No explanation just - Your refund is on its way!
Clicked the "See More Details" button;
No other details other than than refund amount matching what I paid
No reason given
When I've had this happen before it's been customer asked to cancel/seller cancelled
Is this a new eBay treat customers like mushrooms policy?
Anyone shed any light as to why this happened/is allowed

OP3 weeks agoNow we've established it's out of stock
Here's the kicker
Seller has an identical listing with stock status - More than 10 available
So, do I dare?

·3 weeks agoAt a guess...
- Customer downloaded the shipping label which would have immediately created a tracking number
Realised they didn't have the item , or perhaps just changed their mind
Clicked refund.

OP3 weeks agoGood guess
Just checked - It's now showing as out of stock
Good old eBay with their impeccable communication skills
Seriously though, hardly a good buying experience
To be refunded so quickly with no explanation
IMHO, A "seller refunded as out of stock" message would not have left such a foul taste as this experience has.
In fact sh' happens would probably have been my reaction
And merrily I would have went sourcing the 'shiny thang' from another

·3 weeks agoThe reason for cancelling for out of stock will give the seller a strike on their account.
eBay expect sellers to have the items they wish to sell ,and not to disappoint their buyers, hence the strike.
@icecarmedia

·3 weeks agoThat would be reliant on the seller actually using that reason for the cancellation.
But they didn't do that. They processed the label then refunded. As tressygirl points out - this means the seller is not impacted by a cancellation strike.
You can't blame ebay for this - blame the rubbish seller.
