Feedback removed no explanation
Summary: k-ar-l shared their negative experience purchasing a print head on eBay, which was described inaccurately and led to confrontational exchanges with the seller. After attempting to resolve the issue, the seller became abusive, prompting k-ar-l to involve eBay for a refund. Despite leaving factual negative feedback, it was removed, reportedly due to unspecified reasons, but the seller’s retaliatory and abusive feedback remained. roger_roger_over_and_nowt, wgwillia, boundarycoins, and others expressed sympathy, discussed eBay's feedback policy, and the perceived lack of action against abusive sellers.
Hi all,
I recently had the worst experience ever in 20 years of eBay, i purchased a used print head which was described as "Good working order looks like freshly refilled".
They even had selected Used fully operational in the item specifics and had my printer listed as being compatible.
I made a purchase and the printhead arrived however after installing it into my printer it came up with an error saying it could not be used. So therefore the print head was not in good working order and not fully operational.
I contacted the seller first to ask why this may be and was met with abuse he called me stupid said i had ordered the wrong one, even though he specifically noted my printer as being compatible.
He told me to F off, told me F---ing stupid as it needed resetting, but this was not on the listing. So i immediately opened a return with eBay as it was clear the seller was not willing to help in anyway.
He continued calling me a smart A-- making threats saying What goes around comes around and then called me a C---t.
I reported this via eBay but nothing was done.
I returned the printhead and it was delivered to him as shown with tracking, however he did not issue a refund. eBay then had to step in and issued a refund to me.
I then put the following negative feedback on:
"Worst eBay experience I have had in 20 years. The printhead was advertised as being in “good working order”, but my printer would not accept it and showed an error. The seller responded with abusive language and name-calling, then admitted it needed to be reset. I returned it through eBay and it was delivered on 4 September, but the seller did not refund me. eBay had to step in and issue the refund. I strongly advise avoiding this seller."
The feedback was factually true of the transaction and did not breach any feedback policies.
It was then removed after he asked it to be removed, as he sent a message laughing at me and continued to call me names.
I contacted eBay who said the feedback was fair and did not breach any policies but would not tell me why it was removed.
I want to make people aware of the seller as he should not be on eBay but it appears eBay are not that bothered about sellers being abusive to people

·3 weeks agoSo despite the seller using all those red negative symbols in the feedback they left for you, eBay says nothing wrong with that? Whereas your feedback was removed because you mentioned eBay had stepped in. I don't understand why eBay can't just edit the negative feedback - or allow the buyer to amend it - instead of removing it altogether.
I hope there will be some action taken against the seller for the obscene messages. There is surely no way eBay can allow the seller to go unpunished for the personal attack and 'disguised' obcenities?

Hi @k-ar-l , thanks for your post.
I am sorry to hear about this, this is clearly the kind of experience we don't want you or any other user to have on site.
We are unable to disclose actions taken on other accounts due to privacy and security reasons. However, I can see a report was issued from your end and because of this, this will be investigated and actions will be taken accordingly based on the evidence that is found in said report. Again, we won't be able to disclose the outcome, but if your statement above is correct, I can assure you that actions will be taken as per our policies procedure.
Thanks for flagging this as well, @jonatjonatjonat. But again, we are unable to action accounts or look into them if the account holder is not involved and ask us to review. I will make sure to issue a report as well just to be safe, but again, I won't be able to confirm the final outcome.
Thank you,
Marco

OP1 month agoHi @marco@ebay
I don't really need you to disclose the actions (even though when you make a report it says "we will let you know any action taken") as he sends me the message eBay sent to him. As you can see nothing is done about someone continuously sending abusive messages and because nothing is done he continues to send abusive messages. reported again but still nothing. I am really not sure why eBay would allow such a seller on their platform who are abusive to people, list inaccurate details and allow such personal attack feedback to stand.

·1 month agoDid you report all the abusive messages using the help & report link at the top of the message? Surely eBay will have taken some action against the seller for the offensive language they used? And if it is not the first time they have done this, then hopefully your experience will increase the action taken against them.
k-ar-l
OP1 month agoyes reported and no action taken he then sends me a message about the report

·1 month ago@marco@ebay this OP is having issues with an abusive ebay user.
I know you'll say report it - but they have done and nothing has been done.
This other user should be nowhere near ebay frankly.

·1 month ago · EditedThe eBay stepping in part is what stands out. I don’t believe that phrase alone is enough for feedback removal in every case however if the seller can say it is untrue then it would get removed. I may be guessing wrongly but if seller refunded at the 11th hour they could say the feedback was false.
k-ar-l
OP1 month agoThe case for not receiving a refund after the return was delivered was found in my favour. He didn't issue a refund ebay did. So i really have no idea why the feedback was removed

·1 month agoHi The same old story eBay siding with scammers and letting them get away with it.
roger_roger_over_and_nowt
·1 month agoYou can get the feedback left by them removed. That will give them another defect.

·1 month agoMentioning "refund" gives any seller the right to request removal, same as if you mention Ebay.
sml192
·1 month agoNo, it doesn't give sellers the right to request removal as neither of those things are mentioned, as reasons for removal, in eBay’s Feedback Policy anymore. Ebay are in breach of consumer protection law if they remove feedback for a reason not mentioned in their policy.
The OP's feedback may have been removed as part of what they wrote could possibly be considered to be a personal attack and not constructive criticism, however true it may be.
k-ar-l
OP1 month agoMy feedback was not a personal attack it was a factually accurate review of the whole transaction. it did not breach any feedback policies. He clearly knows the right "buzz words" to get it removed and even sent me a message once it was removed. Then he clearly knows how to get around feedback removal by leaving me positive feed back with all negative words which is a personal attack. but yet eBay are letting this happen

·1 month ago · EditedYou need to contact eBay Customer Service and get them to remove the feedback the Seller has left for you as that definitely breaches the Feedback Policy. The Seller should then get penalised as a result.
k-ar-l
OP1 month agoI have contacted them once about the feedback and then about the abusive messages. However nothing has been done the feedback is still there and nothing is done with the messages. He sent a message after they had told him a report had been made and he is basically laughing as eBay are not doing anything. In there message to him they said "the content has been hidden but no other action taken" however the messages i reported are still there and not hidden. He continues to send abusive messages to me with eBay having no care in the world.

·1 month agoYes - and eBay should look again at the messages the seller sent, as it looks like they were 'disguising' the highly offensive words. Maybe they were scanned by AI, which did not pick up on this, when the OP reported them? eBay should be dealing swiftly with - hopefully suspending - anyone who sends offensive messages. Do they really want people like this continuing to use site?
k-ar-l
OP1 month agohere is one example of a message i received

·1 month agoCan only hope eBay will be taking action against the seller for these offensive messages. One of these messages would have been bad enough... hope you are not responding to any more of them?
It seems very unfair that your feedback was removed, but his false positive feedback is still there. I see he has left similarly rude feedback for others, including accusing one buyer of blackmail. Several of his replies to any negative comments have also been rude & insulting... ie 'Lots of sick people on eBay, and he is one of them'
Seems very strange that he is being allowed to apparently get away with this behaviour, as I really can't imagine you are the only buyer he has sent offensive messages to.
