Feedback disappeared
Summary: djonesk-31 expressed concern over negative feedback they left disappearing and questioned the reliability of seller feedback on the platform. asleepingdragon and w1ll0w2708 shared similar frustrations, suggesting that negative feedback is easily removed. skyesong99 claimed that eBay removes feedback without investigation, while sml192 countered by referencing UK laws that prohibit the removal of genuine reviews, though they acknowledged some decisions seem dubious. skyesong99 responded that eBay isn't subject to UK consumer law.
I left negative feedback and it has disappeared. I never leave negative comments without very good reason and even then don't like to do so. But in this case I felt I had to. I was honest and felt my comments were something that other buyers needed to know. I believe in honesty. I am now apprehensive about using sellers feedback as I now realize that it may not be completely accurate. The seller I left negative feedback for has a 100 per cent feedback score? If being honest how is this possible?

·1 month agoeBay will remove negative or neutral feedback at the seller's request, no investigation, no reading of the feedback, no questions asked. Presumably it's a completely automated process.
If I want to flag up a bad seller, I now write the feedback under positive, and add a note saying that it's only positive to keep it from being deleted.

·1 month ago · EditedThat is quite frankly complete nonsense. If that was the case then how do you explain the numerous posts from Sellers complaining that they are unable to get negative feedback removed?
Admittedly, some of eBays decisions regarding feedback removal do seem dubious but UK businesses are prohibited under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCCA) from removing reviews that are genuine, relevant, and lawful. The following is the guidance published by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), in relation to the DMCCA, with regards to negative reviews and the policies and procedures that businesses should put in place in order to comply with the law:
'Include negative reviews
Do not only collect reviews from customers you know are satisfied (unless these are clearly labelled as testimonials), or offer incentives for positive reviews.
You must not:
edit, withhold, remove or delay publication of genuine negative reviews
give businesses the right to block reviews they do not like
make an offer of dispute resolution contingent on a customer not leaving a negative review
treat a negative review intended for publication as a complaint and not publish it
try to persuade customers to submit a complaint to you, rather than a review for publishing
try to dissuade customers from leaving a review on their experience - even if their initial problem has been resolved
Have the necessary policies and procedures in place
You should subject both negative and positive reviews to checks of the appropriate rigour, and have procedures in place to prevent and remove fake reviews. You should also have a published policy that clearly prohibits fake reviews and states your approach to banned content.
Make it clear to site users how reviews have been collected and checked, what they need to do to get their review published, and why their review might not be published.'
Note, leaving negative comments on a positive review is against eBay's Feedback Policy so would be removed if reported.

·1 month agoNot much point in eBay asking for feedback then. Not impressed by this at all.

·1 month agoSellers can make negatives disappear within hours. People on here will say you must have said something controversial in your feedback but it's rubbish. eBay removes negatives all the time. It's pointless leaving them.
