Faulty item fault discovered after installation seller telling me to buy parts to fix it | Buying

I bought a tap from a seller, (do not buy from these people) when it was installed it dripped and I contacted seller who said that it was faulty - loose cartridges and that I need to a) de-install and send back in the original condition to get a refund or b) buy parts from them and get it fixed. Both options involve me having to pay again for a plumber - there is no way of contacting ebay so I am left with a faulty product as I cannot afford to de-install and reinstall OR buy parts to have it reinstalled again. The seller is taking no responsibility for the cost and ebay seem to give no back up? Does anyone know what to do - do you take the Buyer to the small claims court for selling a faulty product and can you claim the costs of installation?
