Failure of eBay to accept legitimate bids
Summary: hogslane expressed frustration with eBay's bidding system, recounting issues with their bids not registering in the last seconds of auctions. They noted a discrepancy in displayed bids and difficulties in communicating with eBay support. roger_roger_over_and_nowt asked if they were using the app or a computer, while boundarycoins explained that if a bid is below the current level, it won't register, and suggested that this is typically how the bidding system operates. They also clarified how late bids can affect the displayed maximum bid amounts.
We all know the problem with last second bidding.
I have often bid at 10 seconds only to find it gave another bidder time to out bid me.
Today I had three items to bid on a few minutes apart.
First item I bid at 7 seconds and won the item.
Next two lots I bid at 7 seconds and my bid didn't appear in the list of bidders.
There is clearly something wrong with the eBay system if it doesn't see your bid.
In one case, some had bid high two hours before and eBay was still showing the top bid as far less, until the auction was over.
eBay is getting increasingly frustrating and entering a complaint is often impossible. Ask a difficult question and the operator just ends the chat.

·2 weeks ago · EditedIf the bidding has moved 7 seconds out and you are below the current bid level, your bid won’t register. You won’t necessarily see that shift happen in real time and I’m fairly sure from what you’re describing that no errors are happening.
I bid with 2 seconds left to go, sometimes the bid works perfectly, other times other bidders have moved above my max bid a split second before and my bid won’t register at all. It doesn’t matter as my max bid clearly wasn’t going to be enough anyway as other bidders have gone past me.
The top bid not showing at its maximum hours before (time isn’t relevant but to reference your example) - this is only because nobody else has bumped it up to your limit with their own bid/s. If you go back to the bidding history when the auction ends you will see how late bids from others caused it to rise. The last thing any bidder wants is their max bid to count when it didn’t need to, it should only go up to it when other bidders trigger that movement.
