Counterfeit Beats Headphones
Summary: leighbayuk expressed frustration with the prevalence of counterfeit Beats headphones on eBay UK, noting that the fake items are easily identifiable. They reported listings but received no action due to an automatic AI review. jonatjonatjonat suggested that reporting to Beats directly or allowing buyers to return fake items might be more effective than relying on eBay's current system. leighbayuk criticized eBay's reliance on ineffective AI for managing these reports.
I was shopping for some Beats Studio Pro headphones and was amazed at how many listings there are on eBay UK for low price counterfeit items. These are easy to spot because the packaging is wrong, the storage case is wrong and the headphones have visual differences including having four marked buttons on one ear cup. There are so many listings for fake items it is a real challenge to find the genuine ones amongst them.
I reported three listings, all came back after automatic AI review with, "We looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy". There was no option to appeal this.
Ironically, I had real trouble listing a Lightning cable (MFi-certified) for sale because this is a registered trademark and eBay want to ensure the product is genuine.

OP1 week agoIf eBay are going to rely on automation / AI for these checks then they need to throw away what they are currently using.

·1 week agoI've never known a reported listing have anything done to it for years at this point.
I'd say the automation is nothing more than
Receive report? > Was it via a listing page> Yes? - Reject it.

·1 week agoIts a waste of time reporting listings. Primarily because ebay can't see the items from the listing.
Unfortunately, the only thing ebay are likely to entertain is customers buying the fakes then opening Item not as described returns.
Alternatively - report the listings to Beats themselves. Its up to them then to be part of the Vero program and to report the listings.
