Conned
Summary: u756175 shared an experience of feeling conned by a seller on eBay after buying identity theft protection stamps that arrived without ink refills as promised. Despite the seller's assurance of a full refund if the case was closed, only a partial refund was received, and eBay could not assist further. missdollydaydream and **peaseblossom** both suggested the importance of following eBay's procedures and reaching out to the payment provider for assistance. blondiebird2003 recommended contacting eBay to review the message history for possible resolution.
I have been selling on EBay for 24 years but have just been conned by a seller. Maybe it’s my age at 77 that I was vulnerable but I bought 2 identity theft protection stamps and then a further 5 under a separate order . The seller sent all 7stamps in one package. None of the stamps had the ink refills as pictured in their auction so I opened ‘Item not as described’ and instead of returning the items , the seller messaged me ton more than one occasion to say I could keep the stamps and.if I closed the case , they would refund me in full . I closed the case.but only received a ‘partial refund ‘ for one stamp and the seller has refused to refund me in full like they messaged me in more than one occasion and eBay say as I have closed the case there is nothing they can do.
I feel totally let down by eBay that the seller can get away with unscrupulous tactics like this and wonder if anyone knows of any redress?
Thank you 🙏

·Sep 9, 2026 at 3:34 PMif you contact ebay and ask them to read the messages between you and the buyer they will more than likely help you . Its a agreement and as long as they can see youve done it in good faith there likely to take it on the chin allow you to send them back are just refund you .. my next advise is do not good to the back if you buy a lot on ebay .. because ebay will more than likely close your account ..

·1 month agoTry contacting your payment provider and see if they can help but you can't really blame ebay for your mistake in closing the case prior to refund.

·1 month agoI'm afraid it's not eBay who let you down but yourself. If you had followed eBay's procedure, you would have been refunded. Use this experience as a learning curve and deal with any future problems via eBay.

·3 weeks agoNever close a case over a promise.
Continue with "item not as described" claim until complete.
Dont get into arguments with seller.
