Buying a piece of jewellery from abroad

Is it worth buying jewellery from Japan as I am a bit worried in case I have to pay duty and other charges here in UK..please advise and thanks.

If the item is £135 or under then eBay will collect VAT at checkout and there won't be any Import Duty to pay.

If the item is over £135 then Import VAT and Import Duty will apply both of which will either be collected at checkout (if eBay's shipping ptogramme is being used) or by the carrier on importation (if the seller is using their own shipping method).
