Age verification at 61......

I went to buy a cordless chainsaw here on eBay UK , I added it to cart and went to check out, I was asked for age verification by entering credit card details, the problem is I don't have a credit card and never likely to, there is no other option for age verification! so I rang eBay to ask if there was another way since I am 61 years of age and have been with eBay since 2004 and aside from asking a friend to use their credit card there was no other option, I don't want to do that and besides I don't have friends, the chainsaw happened to be on offer too so it stung twice as much and I had to pay extra buying from another source other than eBay.
For customers wanting to buy restricted items such as chainsaws, knives or even scissors! it's impossible unless you have a credit card, surely eBay is losing out here in the UK to customers? it's ridiculous there's no alternative age verification, I'm a little miffed.
I tried the "Verify My Age" website but that only seems to be linked to sellers and not buyers.
Will this issue be addressed by eBay?

·1 week agoSame her, 72, been on ebay 22 years and they will not let me buy a knife sharpener. No knife, only a sharpener. I phoned ebay about it, I was told 'you have to be 18 to buy a knife', I said 'but it is not a knife, it is a knife sharpener'. He said 'you have to be 18 to buy a knife', I said etc.. After a couple of rounds of this I gave up. I have always thought commonsense is a thing alien to ebay.

OP1 week agoYes very annoying! unless you have a credit card the ad is pointless, just as ringing eBay is, I hope they change the way they age verify or at least give more than one option, but as with many corporates they're not interested in looking after the customer, they just want your money and spend little on things like age verification, to think the profits they have! hundreds of millions! bring back the old ebay ...... when I used to type ad's in HTML .
I get why they do the age verification but they've failed to implement it properly leaving us to pay more through another company like Amazon or others. Sort it out eBay!

·1 week agoIt’s been like this for at least a year now.
Annoyingly they don’t have to age verify some of the items they actually do.
In short, other age verification options come at a cost that eBay clearly feel is not worth it vs the lost orders they will get as a result of the policy.
