Sales
Summary: Several participants discuss the fluctuation in sales on an online selling platform, with many experiencing a pattern of high sales on one day followed by zero sales the next. auntietootieblue expresses frustration with inconsistent sales and references potential technical issues. billyandpatch26 and the_brick_lodge agree, suggesting that sales seem capped or rotated among sellers. wheretheloveb and others note a long-term decline in visibility and sales, attributing it to platform changes. Concerns are also raised about competition from private sellers and increased challenges since the pandemic.
How can you have items people want one day and then not the next? Made 20 sales on here yesterday, today 0, switched off today I guess cos I got my quota for the week yesterday. This seems to becoming a regular occurrence on here for me now. My figures show that they seem to let me have one good day a week if I'm lucky which gives me my quota of sales and then switched off the rest of the week, the days are within pennies of each other every day. I do not know how people can honestly grow a business on here anymore when my sales seemed to be capped or 0. Anyone else have this?

路2 weeks agoI'm seeing exactly the same issues, this past 3/4 months sales have dropped right off for me as a business seller. I had a call recently from eBay advising me to alter my returns policy to 30 days 'which I have done' and also offer everything at free post 'which I refuse to. I explained that its not quite so simple to add the extra funds to each unit price, which would impact my competitive prices, plus I offer immediate despatch for national and international shipping, with national on a 24hr RM service. I'm almost convinced that my listings or or shop are being hindered and purposely not easily available to view. Its expensive enough selling on here now and there is no way I will be offering free post to all of my items.

路2 weeks agoI've always just assumed it's the way that ebay rotates the top sellers - One day you'll be on page one and sell loads and the next day is another sellers turn??
I aim for about 100 sales a month and seem to be hitting that on average...

路2 weeks agocount yourself lucky I've had nothing all week in fact I have only had 44 sales in the past 3 months. A big drop to what it used to be and yes they do 'hide' listings.

路2 weeks agoI would imagine you are drowned out by POD, some people will have tens if not hundreds of thousands of listings of printed clothes and similar, the days of popping up a few hundred listings of items in a highly competitive market and raking it in are sadly long gone.
One of the sponsored listings on your listing is a seller with 1200+ listings and only 150 sales in 90 day looking at completed.

路2 weeks agoI know you are right gone are the days of 拢1,000 a month sales on here. My previous shop did really well many years ago. It doesn't help with private sellers selling stuff a lot cheaper with no fees either, seen a big increase of those since COVID lockdown. Good job this is just a side hustle now and I feel for anyone new trying to get a foothold on here

路2 weeks agoJust my experience......
I've never known ebay behave this strangely in 18 years of selling.
Always had very consistent sales, mostly niche categories.
Past 6 months have noticed a huge decrease, particularly with lack of views and watchers. Desireable rare items that would have attracted a ton of interest within a few days of being listed, now just sit there as if invisible.
I was hoping the end of heatwave and darker evenings would bring people back but it doesn't seem to be.
There's so many dysfunctions with this site of late......
useless search function
strange algorithmns
Ai
age verification
poor customer service
promoted listings
rip off commission fees
full time sellers on a private account
.....where do you stop ?

路3 weeks agoYes drip fed just enough to keep you barely interested, the last big name I know who started on ebay and is still going is oak furniture land.

路3 weeks agoRotated visibility has been discussed for years on the forums, I've don't recall a member of staff denying it but it does make you wonder, it's a bit different for me, sales are even but once they get to a certain value that's it for the day.

OP3 weeks agoYeap I definitely get this too being capped

路3 weeks agoCompletely agree with this.. One day I sell a few things, then the next day zero.. then it slowly builds with a couple of sales till a good day, then back to zero sales for a day or so..
Its so depressing and hardly worth listing new stock - especially on days I'm 'hidden' when no one even sees it..

OP3 weeks agoYes I鈥檝e spent nearly all day listing and had zero sales but I did log out then back in and I got a technical error message again so I鈥檓 guessing the site is glitching yet again. Funny how the fees section never crashes but the actual selling site does every day, it鈥檚 beyond a joke now
