Last week I was expecting a parcel due to be delivered Friday. My son was at home. . The back door was open and my dogs would have barked., according to my tracking he had attempted delivery. I have a safe place where all my parcels are usually left… Thought it strange…
So I went off and found another postie. He suggested to go to the local SO and catch this postie when he had finished his shift.. The first postie I spoke to arrived back before the parcel man. He found my parcel, still in a mail bag. I heard him ring the other postie to ask why had he marked it as attempted delivery when it was still in the mail bag unsorted…but of course I couldn’t hear the reply…..
There were other people waiting there as well to collect mail as none had been delivered to them…what a mess..

·1 week agoshort on staff and delivery pressure to mark it as delivered on time . letters are bad atm as it does not matter with no tracking , i am seeing 2 to 3 weeks delivery times . i think there is a serious staff shortage because every one wants to go on holiday ( i'm seeing the same where i work at amazon packing hub ,they have overtime on offer nearly every day due low staff numbers ) i have sent out maybe 4 letters this month , 2 have complained and 1 was only sent out last week but no doubt will run late .

OP1 week agoYes it seems tracked 72 is the new tracked 48…
There is no excuse for staff shortages… millions of people are out of work..

·1 week agoI suppose this needs to be raised with your local branch of the Post Office or the Royal Mail. One of the many drawbacks of the privatisation of the Royal Mail is it is hard for customers to know which business is responsible in which circumstances.
If you have designated a "Safe Place", it must be safe because you sign away your rights if it is used and the parcel goes missing.

·1 week agoAbsolutely nothing to do with the Post Office. The Post Office is now a completely separate company to Royal Mail and are just agents for them and other carriers, basically just a drop off point and a place where you can purchase Royal Mail postage.

·2 weeks agoSelecting ' attempted delivery' covers a multitude of scenarios I found out!
When it happened to me and like yourselves I was in, no doorbell rang , no one on cctv etc. etc. suddenly an email message arrives, attempted delivery made minutes ago, item will now be delivered tomorrow!
When the item was delivered the next day I asked if he was the same postie making the attempt yesterday, as I was in all day. Yes it was, but posties / couriers have limited choices to select, and in my case there was a big van blocking our narrow one track road I live on, postie waited as long as he could, then returned to depot.
I learned it doesn't always mean they make it to your door when ' attempted delivery' is the reason given.
You should have had a message to follow to select next day delivery or collection from sorting office.

·2 weeks ago · EditedYou don't know what the actual reason was in your case though. There may have have been a genuine reason why the delivery person was not able to complete all of their deliveries.

OP2 weeks agoIt was not even out for delivery...still at the SO in a mail bag.. the tracking should have read, deliveries are running late....not, attempted delivery..

·2 weeks ago@spence0175 I had the same last month, trainee postie was scanning incorrectly before they left the delivery office and only took half his delivery load. I have no idea how the system works, but sounded feasible.
