I’ve been trading as a small business on eBay for over 10 years and recently had payout holds reapplied to my account (funds now released after delivery instead of next day). This also happened towards the end of last year after a short period where I was unwell and had some delays. At that time, after much back and forth and initially being told it was applied for all sellers, the restriction was eventually advised to have been performance based and was removed following a manual review, and I returned to normal next day payouts. Since then, I’ve been extra careful to avoid any performance issues. However, the same restriction of funds after delivery has now been applied again.This time there was again no warning before the change, no clear explanation of what triggered it, no indication of how long it will last, and importantly I've been told this time there is no appeal process and no option for manual review.This is different to my previous experience, where a review was possible and the restriction was lifted. I was told this time that there are many possible triggers, including growth or changes in selling patterns, and that this was a new policy put in place last year, meaning any seller no matter their trading history can have this payout schedule applied to their account (seemingly system decided and instantly!)As many of you will understand, this has a significant impact on cash flow.My business relies on a mix of held stock and supplier sourcing, so delayed payouts mean I have to fund orders upfront without access to the sales income. As a result, I’ve had to scale back trading, downgrade my store and pause plans for growth.Questions for Other SellersI’m trying to understand how widespread this is:Has anyone else had payout holds applied or reapplied like this?Were you given any clear reason or trigger?Has anyone successfully had this reviewed or removed recently?Has anyone seen or received any official communication explaining this policy in detail?I’ve also seen eBay promote funding/finance options, has anyone used these specifically because of payout delays like this?What I’m finding difficult is the lack of visibility around this. eBay provides clear performance metrics (late delivery rate, defects, etc.) so you can see exactly where you stand in current performance and rating for the month ahead. But this policy seems to sit outside of that, with no visible thresholds, no clear criteria, multiple possible triggers and no clear communication. Given the scale of impact this has overnight, it feels like something that should be far more transparent so sellers can plan accordingly. Up until this point, I’ve generally found eBay to be very supportive of small businesses through its events and growth programmes. Which is why this feels quite contradictory, especially if changes like this can be triggered by growth or shifts in selling activity.I’d really appreciate hearing others’ experiences (whether similar or different) just to get a clearer picture of how this is being applied in practice.
