eBay have added VAT to an order?
Summary: wootton-industries raised an issue about a recent order from eBay where 20% VAT was unexpectedly added, despite them not charging VAT and having already de-registered with HMRC. They noted that over 1000 previous orders did not have VAT added, suspecting it might be an eBay system glitch. sml192 suggested it might relate to overseas sales and EU VAT rules, but wootton-industries clarified it was a UK-to-UK transaction. They confirmed that no other sales had this issue, indicating a possible glitch.
Just downloaded an order from eBay (their print invoice option next to the order)
It has 20% VAT added to the invoice??
We no longer charge VAT and have emailed eBay our HMRC de-registartion letter last year, which they acknowledged and has been accepted.
Just checked previous 1000+ orders no VAT charged by us or eBay, except this one?
Wording on the order is:
VAT (eBay Collected) £x.xx
Strangely they have added VAT to item price and not deducted it from the advertised price?
Anyone else got this issue?
Going to cancel the order because we don't charge VAT, checked the item specifics and its shows 0% VAT, our VAT details are blank so not sure why eBay have added it.
Well below VAT threshold, so no reason I can see why they added it - unless it's an eBay system glitch.

·1 week ago · EditedWas it an overseas sale? If it was a buyer ftom an EU country and the item was £135 or less then eBay are responsible for collecting VAT which is added to your item price.

Data is not showing as an overseas sale, UK order to UK address.
No other sales since have since had the problem, so possibly a glitch?
