On 1 July, 2018, new Goods and Services Tax (GST) laws came into effect in Australia. Australian GST is a broad-based tax of 10% on most goods and services sold or consumed in the country. Under the new laws, GST will also apply to sales of low-value goods (< AU$1,000) imported into Australia (unless an exemption applies). eBay will be considered an Electronic Distribution Platform (EDP) operator under the new laws and therefore be responsible for collecting and paying GST to the Australian government for low-value imports.
Going forward, GST will be automatically added to your Australian buyer’s order at checkout and we will collect and remit it to the Australian Government. You will still receive payment as usual for your item price and postage costs.
As a seller in the Australian market, we recommend you look at the legislation and seek tax advice if you’re unsure how this legislation affects your business.

10% off* purchases on ebay.co.uk for Australian shoppers for a limited time
You might have seen the recent news that Amazon has blocked Australian customers from shopping on its global sites, instead redirecting them to their local Australian site. This change may have impacted your ability to sell to Australian customers.
At eBay, we believe in trade without borders. To celebrate that, we’re currently offering Australian shoppers 10% off* their purchases on eBay.co.uk when they spend AUD $50 or more until 8 July . This promotion may drive even more customers to you. You don’t need to do anything to be a part of this promotion. Of course, you can benefit more from the promotion by adding export inventory to Australia.
Don’t forget, you may also be able to use our Global Shipping Program to ship to Australia for no more than the cost of domestic postage. We’ll continue to keep trade open and give you a shop window to the world.
