Question Cancelled order. in Member To Member Support DO NOT DELETE

Having won my purchase it transpired the seller did not have the goods. He was apparantly burgled some days prior to the auction. I paid for the purchase by credit card, through Paypal. In my purchase history it states the order has since been cancelled, but there is no refund in my Paypal account, as yet. The seller has emailed me telling me that I need to cancel the order before my payment can be returned. I thought I had, and the help pages here on Ebay tell me it is too late to cancel, so I can't get it cancelled, then sends me back to the start. What I would request help with here is, when it states the order has been cancelled on one page, but on another it doesn't, which state of affairs is the correct one? Have I had a refund, or not? It is as clear as mud to me. If anybody understands what I've described (!) I would very much appreciate some advice? All I know, as I've said earlier, is that the amounts paid show in my Paypal account as debits only. There is nothing to indicate any subsequent credit back to my account. Trying to follow, and interpret, both Ebay and Paypal's help pages in very confusing, contradictory, and ultimately not particularly helpful at all.

Hello,

Never close any case before it is resolved.

You can open a case with Paypal. On the left select resolve a problem, and open the appropriate case, escalate immediately or within 20 days for your refund.

Paypal will process the refund, but it will go back to original payment source, if you paid with a credit card, it can take up to 30 days for a refund to appear back in that account.
