"Free insertions" not free

Hi,

I've only just started selling things on ebay. I did have a quick read through the fees section, but missed or forgot one thing, the 20 item a month limit for free insertions.

I had a lot of items to put on, mostly only for a few pounds; I went over the 20 a month limit and I'm shocked by the amount I now owe, nearly half the value of all the I've sold. I knew there were charges for buy it now etc, but a lot of my bill is due to the 35p charge for every item over the 20 limit.

BUT, when I put in these insertions it still said "free" at the bottom under "insertion fees"! Has anyone from ebay ever come up with a good explanation of this?

There is an asterisk by the word "total" but if you click on it it doesn't go anywhere so there is no way of knowing what it means.

I certainly won't make the same mistake again, I'd rather take my old books to a charity shop!

I'd just like to know what excuse ebay can come up with as to why the lisitng page doesn't show the 35p charge when you go over 20 listings.

Thanks for the replies, but the problem is it definitely doesn't show the 35p charge when I list something even though I'm over the 20limit, I tried it with a dummy run. It still said "free" in the box! If that charge had come up I would have stopped listing things and waited!
