Question Buy it Now didn't! in Member To Member Support DO NOT DELETE

Right, Hi All. I'm trying to avoid getting any more hassle from Ebay, of which there has been enough for me to try this rather than call them and listen to the same old litany. A buyer contacted me interested in an item and requested a Buy It Now price. I amended my listing so that it had one and informed the prospective buyer. He found the listing and entered the BIN price and on his screen was shown to have purchased it but when I checked my listing had not changed. I contacted him again to inform him of this and, although mystified, he stated that he would try again but, when he attempted to do so, was informed that the sale for that item had ended. This, in my opinion, has made my item "unbuyable" so I have ended the listing and he is coming to collect the item and pay in person when he does so. My questions are, 1, has anyone experienced this, 2, how do I make sure Ebay don't think I've ended the sale early to avoid their charges? No patronising emails about being down on Ebay either please, last time I ended a sale early (perfectly validly) they put restrictions on my account, which is why I'm writing it here for ALL to see and, finally, is there an alternative method of contacting Ebay to inform them of the "glitch" and resulting situation because all of the tea, silk AND rice in China will not induce me to "speak" (be spoken at!) to one of their "advisors". Many thanks in advance for any useful advice.
