Question Refunds in Member To Member Support DO NOT DELETE

I bought an item that included postage, cost of this wasn't given at time of buying. Item arrived damaged and unusable, took photos and sent to seller. Seller offered replacement, but item would not have been delivered in time, so I requested a refund which seller issued promptly. This was minus £1.99 for postage. Is this correct? I assumed I would get whole amount of of cost which was £6.99. Otherwise it would appear I am out of pocket the postage I did not know details of at time of purchase and no control over, for something that has gone in the bin. Please can someone clarify if this is correct procedure please? Thank you in advance.

If this Return was done just between you and the Seller? You didn't open an EBay Returns Case? You cannot enforce a Refund of the Return Postage.

Dealt only though seller as understood this was the correct first procedure. At no time did he indicate I would be responsible for postage, only apparent when refund given. Is it too late to take up with eBay now? Tahank you for you time.

Sorry for badly typed comments, I’m having a few tech problems! May I just clarify, going forward is it always advisable to go through e bay for any refunds, and not directly with seller? Appreciate advice of you more experienced eBay era!
