I reported some last night but the same seller has over 1500 vehicles listed at suspiciously low prices, all with a photograph containing an email address and instructions to contact them directly using it. Obviously not legit and people will lose their money thinking they are getting a bargain.

EDIT - Well done eBay, all listings been pulled now.

Ebay cannot cater for foolish buyers who let the thought of a bargain overcome their common sense.

True, but posting it on here has had some success in the past, by bringing it to the attention of the mods. Edited to say they have all been pulled now - well done to the mod/eBay employee responsible.

Many members have told us that they have repeatedly reported obviously scam listings in the motors section, without result.

Even if any are removed, eBay only acts on particular reports, and doesn't even consider the seller's other listings.

In a TV programme about organised crime, a senior police officer reported that one criminal gang alone in London had registered "multiple hundreds" of fake accounts on eBay to place fraudulent listings for motor vehicles.

There are scams everywhere. If you and other members can spot them, don't let anyone pretend that eBay can't. This is the company that uses sophisticated scanning techniques to check every message between its millions of members for suspected fee evasion. They could use the same technology to scan listings in the motors section for indicators of fraud, many of which are well known and repetitive.

There are other, simple and cost-free ways in which they could help to protect buyers - even messaging winning bidders to remind them that there's no buyer protection for motor vehicles, and not to pay anything until they have seen and checked it.

But eBay does none of these things. It's hard not to reach any conclusion except that eBay simply doesn't care.
