Is this a dangerous and illegal plug and if so what do I do as the item doesn't work.

It looks to me like those Chinese illegal plugs that have no 13amp fuse making them dangerous.

Contact your local Citizen advice who can put you in touch with trading standards.

It certainly doesn't conform to UK standards, as the earth pin shouldn't be shielded.

If you bough this from a UK seller you could inform trading standards. If from a seller in China, it's your own responsibility as the importer.

You could just cut it off, and replace it. The bigger worry is what the plug was fitted to, and whether that's safe?

EBay is awash with cheap Chinese imports, which are liable to be falsely marked as meeting EU and UK safety standards.

If the item doesn't work, you can open a case for a refund under eBay's money back guarantee. In this case, you must be able to return the whole item, including the plug, to the seller.
