I resolved the problem by deciding to delete my Saved Searches list and start again. The first three searches deleted fine, the fourth when deleted resulted in the page suddenly springing back to Portrait mode, excellent! But why did it change? I hadn't added anything to the Searches list, it literally changed format overnight. Anyway, putting the deleted Searches back on the list has left the page in Portrait mode so all back to normal.
