Question cancelling a transaction in Member To Member Support DO NOT DELETE

How can a private seller just cancel the transaction after I have bid and won the auction claiming the item is damaged or out of stock when it is clearly just because he is not happy with the price it sold for. It makes the whole auction thing completly pointless. Do ebay condone this as it makes a mockery of the whole site.
