Paypal have unfortunately decided to stop returning any fees when transactions are refunded or partially refunded. Previous to this they had brought in a charge, I think it was 30p that was not refundable.

The problem for me is that someone has just purchased an item on ebay from me for £100+ and has almost immediately asked to cancel the transaction. Particularly disappointing as I had just agreed to send special delivery for her at no extra charge and packed/stamped up the item.

Do paypal refund their fee under any circumstances? Can't believe I could end up out of pocket as well as inconvenienced over this.

As eBay are dumping PayPal they don't see the need to refund their fees for transactions they have processed.

How is a buyer request to cancel a transaction on ebay if paid by paypal supposed to work if paypal keep their fee?
Surely much fairer that the fee taken off the amount refunded to the buyer?
Do people refuse to cancel transactions because they are charged the paypal fee?

Before cancelling this transaction I went on to ebay chat and was assured twice by 2 different operatives that the paypal transaction fee would be refunded by paypal when the order was cancelled.

I see that ebay are indeed intending to dump paypal but at the moment we are stuck with it. The article I read mentioned 2021 likely move away from paypal in the UK.

Ebay have got far less greedy with their fees and offers whereas paypal appear to be going the other way.

Charging for refunds even when it was only 20 or 30p has always seemed wrong.

Paypal used to refund fee (except 30p fee) on all refunds, part & full.
Ebay only credit fees on full refund if done through ebay case.
I agrre it is unfair, but we don't have any choice if we want to use ebay/paypal.

It should be added that it is not clear at this time if/when eBay managed payments will replace Paypal for private sellers & Paypal will still remain an option........many buyers still like Paypal & will choose to use it where possible rather than card payments through eBay
