VAT restrictions.

Hi there,

So I am a business seller who ramped up operations from the start of this year,

I've had a profitable few weeks and smashed the VAT threshold.

I started the process to register for VAT yesterday. Apparently, according to the HMRC website, it will take 30 days+ (probably double due to Covid19) to get this number generated

I spoke to Ebay support, and they said they require a VAT registration number inorder to remove the restrictions on my account.

I said i would provide the HMRC completed application documentation for VAT registration - but they stuck to their line "you need a VAT number".

Is there anyone i can contact, anyone who i can speak to, that would lift the restrictions on my account.

I feel that the support team are just reading off a script, and not understanding the issues around with gaining a VAT number in the first place. or taking into account of the delays presented with Covid19.

Fact is, by starting the process off with HMRC - I am now visibly liable for my own tax affairs (TO HMRC)- as the registratrion document would prove - surely this could justify a temporary lifting of restriction?

At the moment it looks like ill be suspended off ebay for 30-60 days (if we assume delays due to covid) with zero recourse :/.

Advice to anyone, if it looks like you are about to hit the limit over the next 2 months - apply immediately, get your documentation(s) sorted!
