I'm a 'newbie' being ripped off by ebay I think..what are 'advance listing upgrade fees' ??? They don't tell about all these extra fees when you join..like 50p for a buy it now listing whether it sells or not!! And what is the difference between 'final value fee. and 'final value fee on shipping'? Can't get any sense out of ebay on this.

Advance listing fees are basically extras.. eg a listing upgrade.

Just before you click to list an item Ebay do say what the item will cost you to initially list. Basic it will say 0.00 or the cost including any upgrades.

Ebay charge you their fees (usually 10%) on the final sale price of your item (for vehicles the fees are different)

PLUS they charge you fees on your shipping (postage costs)

To put it simply Ebay will charge you 10% on the total amount the Buyer pays which includes your postage costs.

Go to help and contact tab at the top of the page and search fees for private sellers and have a good read.

Thanks for that 1956glyn but I still don't know what an 'advance listing upgrade' is, is it just a fee for listing an item for a future start time? What does 'upgrade' refer to? Upgrade from what to what, very confusing and has cost me a load of money?

the 'extra fees' are clearly shown on the listing form BEFORE you click 'list with displayed fees'

you are charged final value fees on the item price and on the amount of postage the buyer pays

adding the extras are the upgrade from the basic free listing

, if you add extras to your basic listings, such as buy it now, a reserve, a subtitle, or gallery plus you will incur fees which are payable even if the item doesn't sell. These fees are the advanced listing upgrade fees and they are shown on the listing form, before you click 'list with displayed fees'

Go to the help and contact tab at the top of the page and search

Fees for private sellers. Everything will come up showing you exactly what listing upgrades are. I cannot copy a link for you so maybe someone else can 😞

Upgrades are extra to the Free listings
When you add an upgrade like a reserve or buy it now
THey cost you as listing fees and are non refundable
you can check any you have by going to the account tab on your My ebay page then summary then fees
It always tells you how much you are being charged for listing just before you click the Submit button

Thank you all but I still don't know what upgrade I have used as checking before I click 'list with displayed fees' just tells me 'final value fee will be charged'... no other fees are listed.I can only assume that a fee is charged to list an item to start at a future time as I generally list during the day for my items to start between 7pm-9pm...is that charged for? Sorry to be a pain but it's a hefty chunk of income. Redwick thank you I have been to that page but no costs are listed. I will have a go at your way with the next listing, have cut and copied it. Well everyone else gets a message which says "LIST WITH DISPLAYED FEES" which means exactly what it says, Ebay show you the fees that are charged whether item sells or not.

The idea is that you read it before you click which means you are happy to go ahead and pay the fees.

Ebay can only show you things they can't make you read, so your claim that you are not told is not true. It means you did not read.

EBay's fees are explained here: http://sellercentre.ebay.co.uk/private/what-fees-youll-pay

If you even need to check them, just type "fees" in the Help & Contact search field (top of page) and it will take you to them.

As a rule of thumb, you need to budget for about 15% of the total sale price, including postage, for eBay and PayPal's combined fees. More if you use optional listing features, such as a reserve fee or "buy now" option, which have to be paid for whether or not the item sells. Which is why it's important to read and understand eBay's fees when selling here. They aren't a "rip off", these are the terms you accepted in the user agreement.

You need to list for at least 5 days to qualify for the basic free listings..a Buy It now will cost you 50P IF you do not list for at least 5 days then you will be charged 35p extra everytime you list an item. Hope this helps.

Thank you....I list every day...it's all a bit complicated isn't it and it seems to me that ebay isn't as open and clear as they might be on fees.

Click on the link I gave and then scroll down to fees

Hold down the CTRl key and then click with the link with your mouse and it should open up

Or copy and paste it into the top of the page where the padlock is and then click to open the link

Thanks for that so please tell me am I charged a fee for listing something to go live later in the day? I cannot find anything in the fees about this or how much it is??? My invoice has a charge for 'advance listing upgrade fees' is this it? NObody has answered this which is my main question.Thanks

Upgrade fees are shown BEFORE YOU CLICK "List With Displayed Fees"

These fees are advertising fees not included in your 1000 free lkistings a month & are charged each time used sale or no sale

The optional listing upgrade you have used that I can see is adding a Buy it Now to auction listings. This costs 50p each time used, and as with all listing upgrades non refundable, so payable even if the item does not sell. In my humble opinion a waste of money, as it does also disappear with the first bid, sale runs on auction styel, 50p still payable

Here's a tip just before you hit the final List item with displayed Fees
button, glance just above it, it will show you any listing fees you would be charged once the item goes live, it then gives you the chance to scroll up and take out those upgrades if you wish. @dpltrading

eBay can be a minefeld, I doubt non of us here did not make a rookie mistake when we first started, but you know now where we all are if you have any other query in the future, can be expensive to make mistakes on here!
