I've had two buyers this week - now wanting to cancel the sales. Neither have paid. Although its really annoying and I'll certainly be blocking them, I am loath to " just cancel the sales" at their request, because as far as I can see it will affect my "standard rating" owning to " transaction defect"

ive asked them to cancel via the resolution centre. I hope this is correct?

Yes, if you just cancel, this does not show eBay it was buyer initiated, and yes, you would get two very damaging defects on your account.

You have two choices, send the buyers a cancellation request >> right of item >> More Actions >> Cancel this order, here select Buyer requests to cancel. However, the buyer here has to accept the cancellation, if they do not, you have to wait a full 10 days, to close it yourself, get your seller fees back and no defect.

Or, after 48 hours of non payment open unpaid item cases for each. Close on day 5. Seller fees refunded, no defect and the buyers here get an unpaid item strike on their account. They are only allowed one.

If you have a non payer you open a non payment dispute at the bottom of the page under Resolution Centre.

You can open one after 2 days and close after another 4 days.

You get your final value fees back the non payer gets a strike and neither of you can leave feedback.

If you dont do this then ebay do not know you did not get paid and you have to pay the fees.

You have 32 days to open a dispute

Non payers should always the then non payment dispute as if you cancel they can still leave feedback

They get a strike when you do the non payment dispute and two or more and they will find it hard to bid on many sellers items

Cancelling lets them off the hook and they feel they can do it again to another seller

It wrecks the sellers listings each time and in some cases where the seller has had to pay an insertion fee or has added upgrades they lost money

Not sure how they can cancel via the resolution centre, which is for problems buyers have with sellers, after they have paid.

You heed to initiate a cancellation, or do an unpaid item dispute.

Thank you for your replies, she’s not paid. I’ve received a mail now from her saying she miss read the measurements, is going on holiday and will pay next week! So a non payment case will open.
The other seller already has an unpaid case open.
What I do now, as a seller, when I re-list I add the sentence , buyer (their user name) did not pay hence the re-list.

You cant Re-list until the Unpaid Cases are Closed.

I wouldn't add details when you Re-list. Future Buyers are not interested to know that Joe Bloggs did not Pay. It is agsinst Data Protection to name any Members ID.

No you don,t add that the last buyer did not pay or put their names on the lsiting
That is not allowed

Why would anyone be interested why you are relisting

What you should do is to put them on your blocked bidders list and also set your buyer requirements to block bidders with strikes
It does not stop all but helps
