I should think that's because there was nothing about the listing itself that broke any rules. The fact that someone said they had been scammed by the seller is not something a bot would be able to check, even if bots were actually any good!

What was interesting about the article was the implication that it was the classical ad nature of the listing that was the problem as you can't pay through checkout for those. We all know that it's not the nature of the ad but the category that determines how you pay and hence what protection you get.

I don't like people being scammed but those buyers have to take some responsibility for checking exactly what protection they do, or do not, have when buying vehicles on ebay.

Did anyone watch The One Show tonight about the Ebay scam?

Zero feedback seller has been listing the same 2015 Mercedes van under different usernames and locations using real companies names and telling buyers to check on the Companies House register for reassurance.

More than one buyer has paid for this van either in full or a deposit but the van does not exist. Buyers have arrived to collect it but the companies named do not know anything about it.

Both the buyers and the companies have reported the listing but no surprise, AI said there is nothing wrong with the listing.

The listing is still live!

It's not just eBay this happens on.

In any event who hands over a wad of cash for a vehicle they have not even seen or checked out?

Maybe not, but the listing has been reported to Ebay as fraudulent and yet it is still live.

How is that right?

That could be because its part of an investigation, there waiting to see if the seller logs in to get there ip address or monitor activity on there cell phone to see what cell tower it pings and where they are operating from, deleting the listing can make the trail go cold.
