Nothing out of the ordinary really but I remember the early days when people were listing snowmen they had built and the bids were going over the million pound mark (and not paying).

I also remember a listing for 3 leaves off of the Oak tree at Sherwood forest and an antique carpet sweeper listed as having a ghost inside it.

Good Afternoon Car

A used and 'blown' large light bulb for approx £8.00. The couple who bought it travelled 30 miles to collect it.

Additionally one small,vintage metal golf tee that sold to a 'more money that sense' American for £110.00

I do remember a TV article/programme about Ebay right at the beginning, where they experimented by picking up some old rope of the beach and actually selling it to someone. Can't remember what they got for it, not a lot, but it did sell!

Oh yes...some people collect large and obsure light bulbs.

My husband does. 😞

I did sell one for him though, on here about 20 years ago. A vast, intricate glass object that looked more like a sculpture .

It sold for 500 quid!!

And the bloke who bought it travelled over from Belgium to the N.E.C. and picked it up (for cash...ahh the good old days...) from hubby, as they were going to the same (techie-stuff) exhibition.....

I was gob-smacked by the whole thing 😲

A few years back I sold a carnival glass bowl. Nothing special and available everywhere. I did a bit of research and they were selling for between 20 to 30 quid. I listed it as auction and started it at £10. About 10 minutes later, there were a few bids and it was on 120.00. I stared in disbelief at the screen. The next morning, it was on exactly £400.00. In my inbox was a message from someone in the USA who wrote "a great rare piece...this will go crazy". I started researching again but was mystified. I wrote back to the person who sent the message and asked why was it doing so well. He didn't reply. I started to get edgy and worried. The day before it finished, it was on £940. Come the day after, it was on £1300. Sat at the laptop with a few minutes to go and was 'refreshing like f***'. 20 seconds left and it started. Bids coming in and it finished on £1,880. It was paid for immediately. I messaged the buyer to ask why it had done so well and his reply was that "these bowls have 10 ruffles around the top, yours has 9. The 'niner' is very rare and I'm delighted to have won it, Please pack it well for its journey to the States". I sent it with enough packing to survive a nuclear bomb and meanwhile, I left the money sitting in PayPal, scared to withdraw it in case something went wrong. About 10 days later, I got a message from the buyer. In those days you could read the first few words of a message without opening it. Those words were 'the bowl has arrived but unfortunately...' My heart sank as I opened the message but the words following 'unfortunately' were...I am away on a business trip so haven't seen it yet but my wife has opened it and it is perfect and gorgeous. (something along those lines). Needless to say I immediately logged in to PayPal and withdrew the money to my bank account.

The Oak tree is called the `MAJOR OAK`, and when I was a kid you could get inside the hollow trunk, it was said to be Robin Hood`s larder! Nowadays the branches are all supported with a metal framework, and you cannot get near it as it is cordoned off. Wish I had thought of the idea of selling the leaves! Genius!

Well a few years ago according to the buyer..............a Sat Nav that insisted trying to take him into a river ! From his rants i think he came close.

As i informed him one has to follow the rules of the road too and not do literally what a Sat Nav says.......

A lump of chalk weighing 150g.

OK, it did have an original paper geological specimen label with it, but it was still a lump of chalk.

Three Bakelite stair carpet 'runners', the old type that the back is screwed to the stair and the decorative carpet holder slides on top.

I found four in a junk shop but I broke one when cleaning it.

As you need two per stair I was surprised and happy that someone bought an odd number, but even happier when they left nice FB to say they arrived safely.

Not quite sure. 😂

But they are sort of interesting looking things, if you're into lighting. (my husband used to be a lighting engineer for rock/pop groups/fashion shows etc in the 80's, so lights are definitely his thing!)

Hubby has one that came out (blown) of a lighthouse about 45 years ago. It's 10 or 11 inches in diameter and perfectly spherical (except for the 'neck') with slightly 'sculptural' filaments inside......Interesting looking...'ish ? But a pain in the rear to keep dusted and sparkling!

The bulb that I mentioned in my earlier post I bought from Habitat and used it until it gave up the ghost and blew. I got more for the unusable item than I paid for it.

I sold someones false teeth years ago, i found them in a box of philatelic material. The bonus was they had 15ct gold for the fillings, made a tidy sum!
