The reason everyone is opted in automatically is that SD is designed to give options to, and to be attractive to, potential buyers. They really don't want sellers picking and choosing which of the available postage methods they are willing to use - to be fair, that would rather drag us back to the pre-SD days.

I agree that it can be a bit of a pain. I've never used InPost; I don't know if they are punctual and/or reliable, and I don't know what I need to do to use a locker. However, I'm sure I'll cope if and when I need to.

Ebay have now added InPost for sellers. What really grinds my gears is why dont they let us know so we can add it? No they tell us and add it automatically so we have to realise and remove it if wishing to use Royal Mail. Discovered DHL is also added plus if listing GPS is added auto so you have to realise and remove if unwanted. Do we arrive at a supermarket check out with items in our basket we dont want?

Yes - I don't know why eBay decide to opt everyone in, rather than just let those who actually want to use InPost, select it for themselves. Perhaps they think more people will have to opt in, than opt out?

Unfortunately, eBay are a bit too keen on auto-updating and re-enabling options these days, so you have to keep a close eye on your listings, to spot any unwanted changes/interference... 🙄

Members were informed of this change,

Ebay sent an email on 19th december 2025 to inform members that Inpost was now available for items posted using Simple Delivery. All members were automatically opted in. The service became available in January.

There was a link in the email to opt out. The paragraph below is from the email - the link no longer works but you can go to 'postage preferences' to opt out.

InPost is enabled already, so the delivery option will be available to your buyers without you needing to do anything. They’ll start seeing this option from Jan. If you’d like to opt out of InPost, you can do so at any time in your Postage Preferences. Unfortunately, the whole postage situation now just feels like a bit of a hotchpotch.

I wouldn't need dragging back to pre-SD days...

I do agree with you that eBay's whole postage system is a mess, especially for private sellers. Many of the original problems with SD still remain and there doesn't seem to be any desire on the part of eBay to rectify that.

It is intended to assist, buyers though, not sellers, and most (not all) difficulties can be overcome quite easily with a little common sense.

Personally I'd be more than happy to opt-in to Evri and InPost, but only if ebay allowed buyers to see and choose between the available couriers. As it is it's not worth it as I know I'll get complaints if Evri is used without the buyer knowing.

Am sure opting everyone in has backfired somewhat. I recently purchased an item from an eBay seller and as it was a bit cheaper I opted for Click and Collect with Inpost.

Sadly the seller, who probably didn't realise they had been auto opted in, dropped off the parcel at an Evri parcel point. Of course it's now lost. I was refunded but am sure there will be a lot of unhappy buyers and sellers.

If you knew I had a private account, what was the point of your post?

For most buyers, SD is better. For most sellers, it really isn't much of a hassle. Yes, there are situations where it still doesn't work acceptably, and there are situations where a little creative thinking in required on the part of sellers. However, I reiterate, it wasn't brought in for sellers' benefit; it was brought in mainly to boost eBay's profits, with the side-effect that it benefits buyers. People continuing to whine that they should be able to do it their own way are just living in cloud cuckoo land.

At first I was sceptical aboubt SD, and not happy to have been forced into it. However, I have completely changed my opinion, prices are usually less than I can charge if arranging myself, and problems which arise, like non delivery or damaged in transit are dealt with by Ebay, not by me. Even if a buyer messages with a query about delivery, it is picked up by Ebay and I am informed that I don't need to do anything. The only slight downside is that, as I have left all postage options open, Evri is the one I most often have to use, even though RM would be more convenient.

I completely get the frustration here. It does feel backwards when options like InPost or DHL are added automatically instead of being something sellers can opt into. Most of us have preferred couriers for a reason—cost, reliability, or simply what works best for our workflow—so having to go back and remove unwanted services just adds extra admin.

Clear communication would make a big difference. If eBay introduced these options but let sellers choose whether to enable them (rather than switching them on by default), it would feel a lot less intrusive.

Your supermarket comparison isn’t far off either—no one wants extra items added that they then have to take out at checkout. It’s not just about inconvenience; it also increases the risk of mistakes if something gets missed and a buyer selects a service you didn’t intend to offer.

That said, having more courier options available can be useful, but only when sellers are in control of which ones appear on their listings.

Hopefully, eBay takes on board that giving sellers control and proper notice would go a long way here. Would be interesting to hear if others have had issues with buyers selecting these auto-added services.

I think ebay are scared of Vinted and so keep changing things all the time. They will lose me in a minute. In Post diesnt sound as good as it being brought to your door. I am a decluutering private seller.

It’s the buyers choice though to have it delivered to an InPost locker, which may be more convenient to them if they aren’t in all day and there is a risk that the item would otherwise be left on the doorstep.
