Simple Delivery

I have used simple delivery for a while now and it defaults to Evri mainly.

I drop parcel at local post office, they scan QR code on my phone, print label for parcel and give me a receipt.

Normally tracking shows parcel collected within a few hours.

However I have a parcel I dropped off Monday lunchtime (same process as above) that shows as at parcel shop and they will collect soon. Still showing this Wednesday morning.

I presume as I have drop off receipt etc , if the parcel has gone missing then it’s now an eBay - Evri issue?

aka they will process refund for buyer and claim from Evri.

Yes, as long as it was scanned if it is not delivered and the buyer opens a "not received" case ebay will issue the refund and you keep the payment.

Everyone seems to moan on here about simple delivery and it’s issues, but in this case it works really well.

It takes the worry about missing parcels and claiming away from the seller (me) making it eBay’s problem.

Gives me more confidence to sell.

After 3 days the item has finally been picked up from the local post office.
The only reasons I can think of is it was missed (put in wrong place) or Evri are short staffed.

Another question;

Does simple delivery cover damage to items in transit?

In this case it’s a ceramic Tureen (Double boxed with lots of bubble wrap and boxes lined with card to reinforce box).

In the old days I would claim from Royal Mail in such an event (never happened touch wood).

As far as I know ceramics are not covered. Other things like gold, silver, precious gems are not covered either.

With most other things ebay would refund and seller keeps payment for damage in transit, as long as the buyer chooses the correct reason for return (although items do not have to be sent back).

when I have bought gold online aka Sovereigns to the value of £1100 (a few coins back in 2017) Bullion Dealer (A large known Bullion Dealer) has posted them to me using Royal Mail Special Delivery with the correct level of insurance.

When I have sold the same over the years on eBay I have also use Royal Mail Special Delivery with correct level of insurance (max £2,500).

If I was to sell say a 1/2 Sovereign for approx £450 (or current value) I would have to use eBay simple delivery that I would expect use Royal Mail special delivery option.

So for gold I would expect eBay would cover a lost parcel with a gold coin in it?

but I assumed it was posted by Simple Delivery. Therefore it must be covered or it wouldn't be able to be S.D.'d....

If it was not going to be covered, it shouldn't have been offered S.D.?

it was clarified that provided it was listed with Simple Delivery eBay would cover you, though I don’t think the actual terms were ever updated to reflect this stance.

There is no mention of ceramics or anything similar on the list of items prohibited from being sent with Simple Delivery.

The Simple Delivery terms do actually reflect what Kat stated. It just isn't as clear as it could be as you really need to read the section on 'Liability for Loss or Damage' in conjunction with the ones on 'Description of the Services' and 'Applicability of third party carrier terms' to get a proper understanding.

(The thread was started by a different person to msg #9.)

That member says they've been told by ebay customer services that handing over (and scanning) an item at a post office does not count as "scanned into the courier’s delivery network" for Royal Mail.

I've no way of verifying who said what, nor whether there is any other factor which affected eBay's decision.
