Why do we bother posting feedback?

I recently left , factually correct, negative feedback for a seller, who subsequebtly got it removed.

What is the point of the feedback system? I don't think I'll bother in future!!!

did you complete a case against them or did you just leave feedback?

if you don't open a case the seller can get negative feedback removed

there are other rules about what you can and can't say in feedback and if you breach those rules the feedback can also be removed

It was as a result of a returned item. The seller only gave 50% refund. When I contacted ebay, they said the seller claimed that parts were missing - not true. Ebay refunded me the balance. I then left negative feedback, stating what had happened and it has been removed!

you are not allowed to mention the results of an ebay case, so that is why the feedback was removed

I agree, but we agreed to abide by ebays rules when we signed up to use ebay!

I shop on ebay because it is a safe place to buy, but the experience is severely soured by the occasional bad apple. However, when a seller has 110,000 feedback, ebay do not want to upset them. It's all about the money!

Tragically, ebay is vastly different to when I first began selling over 20 years ago. Today, I was told by a disgruntled ebayer about a seller who has over 30 negs and 40 neutrals in the last month. Sadly, the place has gone to the dogs in some respects.

I wouldn't have thought that it was beyond the capabilities of any half decent programmer to write something that would look at feedback before it was posted, and give it a "go", or inform you that what you have written contravenes current policy.

Not saying that eBay actually have any half decent programmers, but if they did, they could.

I would have revised my feedback to reflect just on the quality of the product, if I had known there were restrictions on what one can comment on. It appears that we only get one chance at leaving feedback, even if the first attempt is removed (ebay do not inform you that they have done this!). Surely the point of feedback is to inform others of the quality of the product or service received.

No, FB is not supposed to be a product review, just a review of the transaction.

Seems weird to me too, but them's the rules. Such a shame they don't make the rules a bit easier to see. SO many buyers get neg FB left removed, it makes a mockery of the system. The rules should be plastered across the top of the "leave feedback" pages, in plain view.

It wouldn't be so bad if they removed the "offending" comments, but still left the neg sitting there as a warning, and dropped their own "Feedback comments removed by eBay", or something like.

If you take a refund, you can't leave negative feedback... keep the item and don't ask for your money back and you can say what you like.
