Unfortunately eBay are not likely to do anything as it is the buyer's opinion.

No idea if you came across as rude and/or ignorant to the buyer, but clothes are notoriously difficult to get right.

Always best to put accurate measurements and if you get someone complaining they're not as described, get the item back for a refund unless you can show absolutely that it is buyer error or remorse.

Also, whilst that neg and probably the related low stars have not been a disaster as such, your seller ratings are slipping and combined, that will cause you a problem before too long.

I have just received my first negative feedback, the buyer said the item not as described and that I was rude and ignorant, she said the trousers I sold her were an inch longer than I had advertised and I suggested she could put a hem on them , does that make me rude and ignorant? have put the matter in e bays hands to sort it out as I am not happy at all about it.

But if the measurements were approximate, they cannot then be accurately as stated. Either the waist is 32" or it is approximately 32".

With clothes, it's best to put as many accurate measurements as possible including outside length with trousers, hips for ladies trousers (measuring across the front on the flat), even the rise.

Another good piece of information to add is the material as this can affect how it will wear.

I didn't actually say the OPs stars were low - I said (at that time) they were slipping. The neg probably also hit the stars with low ratings, causing the problem, but it then takes a disproportionate slog to get them repaired.

When the stars show as 4.8 on the feedback page, they could be a bit higher than that or a bit lower.

If it's 4.77, for example, on the seller dashboard, that's getting into the area where the smaller seller is at risk because it will then only take one or two more medium to lower ratings to tip them down into getting a warning from eBay to improve.

If the seller then cannot get the ratings back up in sufficient time, they face either selling restrictions (making it even harder to pull their ratings back up) or a full and permanent suspension.

Sometimes it seems ridiculously and quite unfairly fast and merciless on eBay's part and even more so when you take into account the track records of all those mega sellers who leave trails of unhappy customers in their thousands.

But that's eBay for you.

It all depends on the tone of your correspondence.

For example,

Did you say, ..... "Have you considered putting a hem on them? If that solves the issue I would be open to sending you an agreed partial refund."

or .... "Just put a hem on them you stupid Pikey."

One of those could br thought of as rude.

:^O

Always rely on Stevie to make me laugh.
