Arsenal Goalies ... Viviano, Fabianski and Szczesny.

Defenders ... Sagna, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Nacho Monreal, Jenkinson & Gibbs.

Of the 10 midfielders there are 2 with English sounding names, Wilshere and Ramsey.

Of the forwads there are 9 players, 2 of which have English sounding names.

Hence the title of what happened when I watched part of the ENGLISH FA Cup football. It's just a farce.

These are CLUB sides, not the English national side. These players are here because of the obscene wages on offer from the Premier league, so your point is invalid.

I just meant it to mean that it was teams within the English League clubs.

I doubt it very much, though a cap on wages may just slow the border entrances down a bit.

I am probably over simplifying things here, but could the answer be money?

Imagine a Premier team need a new striker or whatever

Is it possible that the transfer fee for a player from a foreign team would be a lot less than for a player of equal talent and ability from another Premier team or even from a lower division.

I may have got it wrong, but just a thought.

And quite a few of our home grown players are now playing overseas.

There could be a similar thread running on a forum in another country, regarding the number of English names on jerseys..

You are probably right, H-B.

But with regard to the match that caused the OP, a match being played as a part of an ENGLISH cup game, there were 6 players in view at one time when the shot was frozen due to after-match commentary in the studio. There wasn't a single (cough) anglo-saxon face.
