topic What is it with Surveys? in The Round Table

It doesn't seem to matter if it is a survey about hair colouring gunk, clothes for schoolkids or the best kind of butter.

I'm talking about the surveys incorporated into TV adverts here. The results are never spoken out loud, you just need to read the text as it flashes across the screen.

So what's your gripe, Steve?

Well, how come these surveys always say something like "274 of 307 people asked agreed."

Why not just ask 300 so that we can make sense out of the figures?

Grrrrr!!!

It's just advertising fluff, nothing else.

I think they do it because it sounds more 'official' and more precise to say 307 rather than 300.

What they don't tell us is that they gave the 307 people free samples, or they all worked for the advertising agency.
