Cancelled Direct Debit

Earlier this evening I received an email from eBay saying that they were unable to take payment for my fees because my bank declined it. I checked my online bank account and noticed that the Direct Debit that has been there for nearly 9 years is not there. I called my bank and they don't me that there was no record of either them or me cancelling the Direct Debit and it was likely to have been eBay.
Now, eBay have charged my account £4 because the payment was returned.
I check my DD's regularly on my online bank account and the eBay one was there when I checked it about a week ago, max 2 weeks.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Also, what does anyone know the charge rates to call eBay because this way to resolve my issue didn't quite appeal to me (but what other choice do I have) and they don't give an option to email them.
