Hi, Petal.

cccleaner and malware are a good idea too

(Puts on pedant's hat.)

Surely malware (malicious software) is rarely, if ever, a good idea.

On the other hand, I'd agree 100% that Malwarebytes is a valuable addition to anyone's security arsenal, if they use Windows.

100% with you, too, with respect to people checking their computer for malware/adware before simply blocking stuff.

Salutations!

It's interesting that there seems to have been a huge increase in complaints about pop-up adverts of late. It might just be eBay being really irritating.

However, there do seem to be one or two bits of malware (or adware, anyway) which target users of online shopping sites.

If the opening poster's interested, this thread might be of interest:

Probably worth running Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner at the very least. Then, as petal suggests - once that's safely out of the way, look into AdBlock Plus. Not sure I'd still use this site but for AdBlock Plus, to be honest. And since relatively few folk bother, this is unlikely to cost eBay anything much, but might keep a few users who might otherwise lose interest.

Flashblock is also jolly useful to block irritating flash animations.

And they both have the potential to improve security.
