I like the raised platform playing area  idea ,and of course artist interpretation of how barbed the boarder is 

I would say 2 inch playing squares and depends how 20 inch looked and if 22 inch is as you say a little too large...but it could have 2 1/4 inch squares as pieces are big ....if I knew how to post a pic of pieces I would as you can see from them how they belong to some demented vampire lol

As I say though anything thats inspired by church decor (albeit the french church of movies )  I may add gargoyles  or towers or both on the corners hence a little larger at base level.

Are we looking at 1000s or hundreds here ? as one of those is beyond my hubbies sphere of intelligence 😄

we-e-ell tbh the chances of me making one before Christmas are thin :s It wouldn't be vastly expensive, I use machines a fair bit, important for straight lines 🙂

small update ...there may be a little need for a router to add a slot underside so it sits tight (slots over a ped) .if indeed the moment strikes you to build one 🙂

It being nearly xmas when someone's retiring, I'm rather stuck into a foot tall Angel with girasol quartz head, but mlle. Router sits waiting in the shed. When the moment comes, it will all fall into place   

The way to "nootralise the threat" of barbed wire related misgivings might involve embedding them in some ki d of routed channel. Soon there'll be a drawing and then....

OP depends on when you class the good old days, all looks very similar to me, I had a personal account that went business account before this one, not sure when I opened it, probably 2002? (before paypal and ebay became joined) there was still the option to put your sort code and bank account number on ebay for a transfer then LOL.
