I sold a smartphone, the buyer has contacted me saying that the phone is not as described because they are having network issues, basically they can't get a signal.  I was very specific in my listing stating This phone is locked to 02, so please don't bid for the phone unless you want to be connected with o2 or you are willing to go and get it unlocked.  The buyer is demanding a refund, the tone within his email is slightly threatening, saying he doesn't want any trouble, so please cooperate and he expects a refund when I receive his message.  The phone is exactly as described within the listing, so am I obliged to refund?

Hi,

It's annoying when people don't read/don't understand listings.

It sounds as though you may be best off asking for it to be returned.  He must pay return postage (eBay would tell him the same).

Say you will refund on safe return of the phone. (Cost of phone and original postage).

I'm afraid if you don't, he might decide to open a dispute, and you'd end up in this situation again.

Otherwise, politely point out what it says in the listing, and explain what he needs to do.

Good luck :)

In theory no,but in practice the buyer can open a case, and in view of the fact most buyers win,and they can neg you,you may as well ask them to return it for checking, then refund.

Maybe let them know you will be checking it upon its safe return before refunding (hopefully you noted the EMEI number)
