Private seller told I am a business and must upgrade by e bay?

I'm a private seller with v low sales (no sales at all this week).  While I use the free listings and list lots every other week or so, I don't sell much.

However, e bay have told me I'm a business seller and must upgrade.  I am selling bric a brac, junk, garage contents and projects I'm never going to finish - no new items!

E bay don't seem to accept my reasoning that selling three items over the course of two weeks (about £80) represents a private seller.

I have a full time job and it would be a terrible business if i was trying to make a living!

Help please, Anne!

Hi,

Once you list more than 100 items per month ebay do tend to consider you are a Business seller and will tell you to upgrade.  It's not the number of sales.

It doesn't have to be new items either - there are a lot of people who buy to re-sell.

Hi there,

Its not the quantity or even if you make profit or not. If you buy in to sell or make items specifically for sale then you should be a business seller.

If you are only selling on your own unwanted items then you are definitely a private seller.

Is it this account I cant see anything obvious. Something must have tripped ebays software?? Have you sold any identical items across multiple sizes and quantity?

Did you definitely receive an official message saying upgrade or dont list? I ask this because some buyers misunderstand the 3 designer named (high street names included)items a month limit and think theyv'e been prevented from listing all items. Did it address you by name? There are some spoof messages going about. They will usually start dear member rather than your actual name/ID.

The only thing you can do is to speak to customer services and get them to take another look at what you have sold. Phone may be your best bet.

I got an email from Ebay a while ago when I was listing my vintage magazine collection as it took my number of items for sale close to the 100 mark. I am not a business seller either as the stuff, when I do sell, is just stuff I've accumulated over many years.

I sent Ebay an email explaining that I don't buy in items to resell or make items to sell and am not a business. I had an email back saying that they would get back to me. They never have. I continue to sell at gentle pace that no business seller would be satisfied with. They certainly couldn't make a living out of it.
