How do I go about getting the selling costs back as still have the item but can't relist as we are going away so won't be here when sale ends

You should have opened an 'Unpaid Item Dispute' after 4 days of non payment and closed it after a further 4 days if they still had not paid. You would have then got you selling fees back from eBay and been able to relist or sell on you second chance offer.

 

eBay have charged you for the first sale which you should have closed before reselling.

 

Try and open an Upaid item Dispute for the first item Through the resolution centre.
