Oct 21, 2012 09:54 PM

Hi,I am a new seller and listed a ring with buy it now option.A buyer bought it and when i checked his feedback he had literally just opened an account that same day,and had no feeback. Also his address was a church hall.I heard nothing from him and thought it best to cancel sale.He then declined to cancel and ebay have said i have to pay final value fees.He has since messaged me asking me to post ring and also for my email address. He messaged another couple of times asking me to post ring and saying he was going to pay.He hasnt messaged in a while and hasnt payed either.I doubt he ever will.Advice would be appreciated regarding fees i have to pay and the guy.PS his spelling and wording are terrible. Many thanks.

New sellers are sometimes targeted by buyers but as your item was to be posted special delivery it was an unlikely target as this form of delivery is quite secure.

When your buyer did not pay you should have opened an UID after 4 days. After a further 4 days you could have closed the case and got your fees back.

Since you requested a cancellation you are stuck with the fees and your buyer can also leave feedback if they wish.

Their address does seem odd but as they did not pay you will never know if their PayPal address was valid.....it may have been legitimate.

Fully understand why you were so nervous. If you do decide to sell again and hit a problem please try to come to boards for advice first. There are some very experienced respondewho who can give you great advice ( much more knowledgeable than me )

:(

Its a shame you didnt come here for advice before sending a mutual cancellation request, as you can not now open an unpaid item case. Plus ebay will charge you as they have declined to cancel

The only thing you can do is to contact ebay CS to see if they are prepared to credit your account with the FVF

add this person to your blocked list

http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?BidderBlockLogin

Tighten your requirements to reduce the number of timewasters

http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?BuyerBlockPreferences

Also when it sells, send via SD and keep all tracking info for at least 13 months, as chargebacks can happen months down the line and you will need to prove online delivery to the PP regiatered address

You should not have cancelled, you should have opened unpaid item dispute after 4 days, then closed after a further 4 and your fee would have been refunded.

Add their ID to your blocked list and chalk it up to experience, do not communicate with him any more

Following proper payment and postage procedure would have protected you. Trying to cancel so quickly is not really reasonable and not giving your buyer a chance. I think you will find you are stuck with having to pay the fees.

As the listing only closed yesterday its unreasonable to worry because you had heard nothing from your buyer.

Your point about them not having any feedback - well neither have you and you do say in the listing "Please dont let my zero sales put you off in anyway - i am honest and genuine!"

Given these facts I don't think there are indications that they are trying to scam you. However as they have refused to cancel they can now leave feedback and possibly damage your account.
